We're currently steamrolling straight into awards season and expect NASA drama Hidden Figures to be in the mix come February.

The film tells the true story of African-American mathematicians Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson, whose calculations were instrumental in sending the first American astronaut, John Glenn, to orbit the Earth in 1962.

The film sees the trio deal with not just gender inequality but also institutional racism.

The fact that the story of their achievements is only coming to light today tells you all you need to know about the obstacles they had to face.

Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monae play the three leads and the supporting cast consists of Kirsten Dunst, Kevin Costner, Jim Parsons and Glenn Powell.
