Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds in the same movie? 2017 is already looking far superior to 2016.

'Life' looks like it'll be the first blockbuster of next summer, and employing two of the best and much-loved actors going at the moment is a good way making that box office count go way up.

Gyllenhaal and Reynolds play two of six astronauts aboard the International Space Station who discover, or at least think they discover, life on mars in this sci-fi thriller from Daniel Espinosa, with a script from 'Deadpool' writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. Somehow, we can't see this one being as funny though.

That said, we're already excited about the potential bromance between the two leads and their inevitable press tour.

Here's the official synopsis:

"Life tells the story of the six-member crew of the International Space Station that is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As the crew begins to conduct research, their methods end up having unintended consequences and the life form proves more intelligent than anyone ever expected."

'Life' is set for release on May 12, 2017.
