Watch: Nicholas Hoult and Kristen Stewart star in thought-provoking sci-fi film Equals

It's honestly so rare to see sci-fi films that are both visually beautiful and thought-provoking anymore.

Equals, the new film from Drake Doremus, sees Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult living in a clinical futuristic utopia where emotions have been suppressed and physical contact is no longer permitted between anyone. Yes, it's sort of like George Lucas' THX 1138.

Is that a bad thing? Absolutely not. THX 1138 is one of those overlooked sci-fi masterpieces so anything that gets people talking about it is good in our book. Director Drake Doremus previously did 2013's Breathe In, the subtle little drama with Guy Pearce and Amy Ryan about a foreign musical student who boards with a family and slowly begins to change the dynamic in the house.

Speaking of Guy Pearce, he's also in this with Jacki Weaver and The Girlfriend Experience's Kate Lyn Sheil. There's no confirmed release date as of yet for Ireland, but here's hoping it gets a run because this looks pretty special.
