Old-school survival movies aren't all that en vouge any more, but it's still pretty cool to see studios will to take a gamble and give them a fair shot.

Case in point being The Finest Hours, the true story of a rescue attempt on an oil tanker off the coast of Cape Cod in 1952. Chris Pine plays Bernie Webber, a rookie Coast Guard who's sent out by his superior, Eric Bana, to rescue a torn-in-half oil tanker that's being led by Casey Affleck.

With just three hours to survive on the wreckage of the oil tanker, the crew begins to pull itself apart under the stress whilst Pine desperately attempts to plough through the crashing waves and storm conditions to reach them in time.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, who directed 2013's Million Dollar Arm with Jon Hamm and 2011's much-better-than-you-remember Fright Night with Colin Farrell, it's also written by the screenwriting team behind 2010's The Fighter.

Here's the latest trailer. The Finest Hours hits Irish cinemas in February 2016.
