There's a lot of pressure on Assassin's Creed to live up to the tag of the first successful video game adaptation.

The film sees Fassbender play the role of Callum Lynch, a death row inmate who finds that his execution has been faked and he's now under the control over a powerful Templar organisation that want to utilise his ancestry. Turns out Callum is descended from a line secret Assassins and the aforementioned Templars have developed a revolutionary technology that allows him to unlock his genetic memories and experience the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar in 15th Century Spain.

So far, so awesome but Templar's true motivations are unclear and Callum will need to watch his back for Marion Cotillard's gentic expert and her devious boss (Jeremy Irons).

The film also stars Brendan Gleeson (who's curiously missing from the trailer) and The Wire's Michael Kenneth Williams.

Directed by MacBeth's Justin Kurzel, Assassin's Creed arrives in cinemas December 21st.
