The film is a coming-of-age story set in 1979 about a teenager who loves the Clash and meets John Strummer by chance. Daniel Huttlestone, who previously starred in Into the Woods, plays the teenager, Shay.

Best-known for The Tudors, Match Point and Bend It Like Beckham, Irish actor Jonathon Rhys Meyers has also starred in musical roles in August Rush and Velvet Goldmine.

Filmmaker Derrick Borte said in a statement: ‘This coming of age story is just a glimpse into a brief moment in the life of one young boy almost 40 years ago, set against the rise of punk and a backdrop of social political, and racial unrest that is incredibly similar and relevant to what we see happening in the world today.

‘I made London Town to illuminate the power that music has to change your life.’
