This is one way of promoting a movie we could really get used to.

Director Denis Villeneuve has selected three filmmakers to direct three shorts exploring incidents that happened between the original Blade Runner and the upcoming sequel.

The first short, directed by Luke Scott (son of Ridley), is called Nexus: 2036 and covers the rise to prominence of Jared Leto’s Niander Wallace.

In the clip, introduced by Villeneuve, the replicant ban is still in effect but the outer colonies appear to be thriving. Watch here:

The release of prequel shorts is a clever marketing ploy that will re-immerse fans in the Blade Runner world and gradually increase hype before the release of ‘2049’ on October 6th.

We’ll bring you the next two shorts as soon as we get them.
