After bringing the air date of the documentary forward, HBO have released a first look at Bright Lights: Starring Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher.

Directed by Alexis Bloom and Fisher Stevens, the 95-minute documentary was filmed between 2014 and 2015 leading up to Reynolds preparing to receive her Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award, which Fisher presented to her.

The film examines the complicated but loving relationship between the mother and daughter movie stars, who died within a day of each other last week. Their lives at home in the Beverly Hills compound they shared will be seen extensively.

The trailer depicts how the film will include both archival footage and home movies, as well as reflect on the topics of mental health and the realities of aging. Fisher can be heard saying “I’m my mom’s best friend. Far more than I would ever want to, I know what my mother feels and wants.”

No doubt it will be a tough and emotional but rewarding watch.
