Yesterday the film's stars teased the first clips from the film and this morning brings us the first official trailer, and what a trailer it is.

Tom Taylor plays Jake Chambers, a kid with menacing dreams about another world that become reality when he's transported to that world and crosses paths with Elba's Roland Deschain, the last Gunslinger who is on a mission to protect the Dark Tower from McConaughey's Man in Black lest he destroy it and both worlds.

While the vibe from the trailer is a bit 'Neverending Story' meets the Wild West with an R-rating slapped on, we have high hopes for this.

The film also stars Katheryin Winnick, Jackie Earle Haley, Abbey Lee, and Fran Kranz. Here's the official synopsis:

There are other worlds than these. Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, the ambitious and expansive story from one of the world’s most celebrated authors, makes its launch to the big screen. The last Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), has been locked in an eternal battle with Walter O’Dim, also known as the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey), determined to prevent him from toppling the Dark Tower, which holds the universe together. With the fate of the worlds at stake, good and evil will collide in the ultimate battle as only Roland can defend the Tower from the Man in Black.

'The Dark Tower' is set for release in Irish cinemas on August 18th.
