Mr. & Mrs. Smith this very much is not.

Starring and directed by Angelina Jolie, or Angelina Jolie Pitt as she's credited in the trailer, By the Sea will see Mr. and Mrs. Pitt reunite on the silver screen for the first time in 10 years in this 70s throwback relationship drama. Also starring Mélanie Laurent, Niels Arestrup, Melvil Poupaud, and Richard Bohringer, By the Sea is quite the change of pace from Jolie's last directorial effort, and with their star power and talent, she might be in for some more Oscar gold.

Here's the official synopsis:

By the Sea follows an American writer named Roland (Pitt) and his wife, Vanessa (Jolie Pitt), who arrive in a tranquil and picturesque seaside resort in 1970s France, their marriage in apparent crisis. As they spend time with fellow travelers, including young newlyweds Lea (Laurent) and François (Poupaud), and village locals Michel (Arestrup) and Patrice (Bohringer), the couple begins to come to terms with unresolved issues in their own lives.

The last time this pair shared the screen it brought them together in real life, so let's hope for their sakes life doesn't imitate art once again.

By the Sea is scheduled for release in Irish cinemas on December 11th.
