As we approach the tail end of summer it's time to leave the blockbusters behind and look ahead to the awards season contenders with excitement.
Yesterday we had the first look at Manchester by the Sea which could see Casey Affleck nab his first ever Oscar nomination. Now there's the first trailer for Lion and it looks like Affleck could have some stiff competition in the shape of Dev Patel.
The former Skins and Newsroom star plays Saroo Brierley a young Indian boy who becomes separated from his family while train hopping one day. After miraculously surviving the harsh conditions of India’s street life, Brierley winds up as a foster child in a local orphanage, and it’s here where he is adopted and taken to live in Australia. Two decades later, the 25-year-old attempts to find his birth family using Google Earth.
With Rooney Mara, Nicole Kidman and David Wenham filling out the supporting cast, Lion looks like it will definitely be in the mix during the Oscars race next year.
