They might be boring, outdated and horribly predictable, but period dramas still continue to find audiences.

Like it or not, people still love a good-looking film about romance and love in the '40s and '50s. So it goes with A United Kingdom, based on the true story of Sereste Khama, the first president of Botswana and a member of the country's royal family who led the independence movement from the United Kingdom and married an Englishwoman before doing so.

David Oyelowo plays Sereste Khama whilst Rosamund Pike plays Ruth Williams, whom he later married amid a storm of controversy.

A United Kingdom is slated for a November 25th release and will debut at TIFF on September 9th.
