If you've been living under a rock, or have managed to train your brain to zone out entirely whenever the words One and Direction are strung together in the same sentence, you may be living a life devoid of their forthcoming documentary movie, helmed by Supersize Me's Morgan Spurlock. This Is Us charts the 1D boys rise from X Factor's non winners to becoming the world's most popular and chart topping boyband. Upsetting as it may seem to the real music connoisseurs among you, these guys are surpassing what even The Beatles achieved. But in an age where things can trend and drop off the face of the Earth in as quick a turnaround time as it'll take you to read this story, will they stand the test of the time? Will their creative output transcend generations for years to come? We'll have to wait and see.
Until then, we can catch up with the boys' experience thus far. Even from a purely anthropological point of view, or for those of you who enjoy a well made documentary, it's rather interesting to see five ordinary young'uns, one hailing from Mullingar, go from Clearasil and maths homework to GQ magazine covers and world premieres, not to mention the legion of terrifying young women ready to tattoo 'I heart Harry' on their collective arses. Oh and they're also rolling in it. Like massively so.
So whether you're a fan of the teenage knicker-wetting, shriek-inducing pop outfit or you find the idea of such explosive success intriguing, This Is Us just might be worth casting your eye over. Don't worry, we won't tell anyone if you're secretly a fan.
