It's a funny 'oul business, movie franchises.

Matt Damon categorically said that he was done with the Bourne franchise following Ultimatum - he even went so far as to call the next one The Bourne Redundancy.

Now, after a few years and a bit of time (and money, no doubt), he's back in the seat as Jason Bourne.

Not only that, 10 Things I Hate About You and co-star Julia Stiles is also returning along with director Paul Greengrass.

It's now been confirmed that Viggo Mortensen, better known as Aragorn from Lord of the Rings or that terrifying Russian guy from Eastern Promises, has been offered a juicy role in the fifth installment of the Bourne series.

It's understood Mortensen - if he accepts - will be playing the villain, an assassin sent to track Bourne down and off him.

Upcoming starlet Alicia Vikander, who starred in this year's cerebral sci-fi hit Ex Machina, is also being courted for a role in the movie.

All in all, it looks like everything's on the right track. You've got the original director, original cast coming back and some newcomers with a lot of weight and experience behind them.

Thumbs up all round, we say.

We'll know when the film lands in cinemas on July 29th, 2016.
