For those who haven't watched South Park since that time they bought Chef Aid on CD, here's a quick update for you.

Member Berries are a character in the series, which look like raspberries except they talk about how great things used to be back in the day. It's pretty funny, and like most of South Park, the hidden meaning is all the more caustic.

It's essentially talking about how nostalgia has replaced creativity, and that it's eventually just hollow. So, with that in mind, Trey Parker and Matt Stone were recently interviewed by THR and the topic of Member Berries came up - which, funnily enough, brought them to talking about Steven Spielberg's upcoming sci-fi film Ready Player One.

"Now that Spielberg is doing Ready Player One — which is like the most Member Berry thing ever invented — we can't out-Member Berry that," Parker said. "All the Member Berries left our show to go be on that."

That's pretty cutting from a show that some would argue is past its prime, but they're not wrong - Ready Player One traffics in exactly the kind of rose-tinted nostalgia that Member Berries are all about, so it makes sense.

Are they right, though? Is Ready Player One just Member Berries: The Movie? Let us know in the comments!
