Michael Bay is no stranger to controversy, however it's fair to say that Transformers: The Last Knight wouldn't be one of those films that would actively court it.

After all, it's a film about talking robots based on a toy-line from the '80s - how can you possibly make that controversial? By throwing Nazis in there, that's how. The director is under fire from British veterans for using Blenheim Palace - the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, the Prime Minister who served during World War II - as a double for a Nazi castle, complete with waving red flags and goose-stepping soldiers outside.

However, Bay has defended the film and even went as far to say that Churchill "would be smiling" on the film production, according to a recent interview with BBC. "People have not been fortunate enough to read the script and they don't know that Churchill in this movie is a big hero...When you see the movie you'll understand."

Look, we saw Transformers: Age Of Extinction and that didn't make any sense so there's little hope of Transformers: Mecha-Churchill And The Nazis making any sense either. Still, veterans group are reportedly furious with the usage of Blenheim Palace, saying those who fought in World War II "would be appalled by this."

Transformers: The Last Knight hits Irish cinemas on June 23rd, 2017.
