Michael Bay has confirmed that he will indeed direct the fifth installment of the Transformers franchise.
It was thought that four directorial outings would be enough for Bay (he said as much himself when Transformers: Age of Extinction was released) but it seems he's been tempted back in the ring for one more bout which he's claiming will definitely be his last.
"This is the last one. I have to pass the reins to someone else."
We're not really sure how to feel about that statement. Be happy that this will be the last time Bay puts another Transformers movie out into the world or scared that there'll be even more Transformers movies on the way after this one. We suppose it would be naive of us to think that there won't be a new Transformers movie at least every three years now considering the last one made Paramount over a billion dollars at the box office.
Bay said that ,"Transformers, I still have a great time. It's fun to do a movie that 100 million people will see. J.J. Abrams told me, 'You're the only guy that could do this.' But it's time to move on. One more."
It's as if he could already sense our skepticism.
The film is expected to open up the Transformers universe even further to help spur future installments and spin-offs a la Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There is no specified release date just yet but expect the film to arrive sometime in 2017.
