For those that recall, Layer Cake was pretty much the same thing for one Daniel Craig - showcasing how charismatic he could be in a leading role.
Elba has had plenty of lead roles and is extremely well thought of, but he hasn't really gotten his hands dirty in a action kind of way. That looks like it'll change with 'Bastille Day', where he plays a CIA field agent - so he gets to slap/shoot people a lot.
The film has two credited directors on IMDB James Watkins and Jill Gagé, but just the one in the post trailer credits. Watkins has dabbled in horror mostly so far with the underrated Eden Lake and Woman in Black - he reteams with his Eden star here Kelly Reilly.
It also stars Game of Thrones' Richard Madden. Expect it in cinemas the end of April.
