A while back, I had the pleasure of meeting Len Wiseman. Apart from being rather easy on the eye, he's also one of the loveliest directors we've met. As quick as others will be to slam his directorial efforts, Total Recall in particular, we're going to give him the benefit of the doubt on his forthcoming reboot The Mummy which has just been confirmed. The latest franchise with Brendan Fraser was seriously on the wane - there's only so long you're going to spend kicking the shit out of the undead before you lose your enthusiasm - so the chances of Wiseman actually bettering what went before are high.
With an apparent affinity for remakes, Wiseman will direct from a script that he proffesses will be significantly more scary than the movies that have gone before.
As per Collider, Kate Beckinsale's hubby said: "When I first heard Universal was relaunching this, that is the image that popped into my head... The period tale, the old monster… but when Bob and Alex (script writers) pitched it, there was a great new take and approach, and a very different mummy as well. It's a darker twist on the material, a scarier version." So a bit like everything else these days...
Allegedly, the remake will look more towards its 1930s original in that "at it's beating heart it's a horror, and then an action movie.”
Production is likely to get under way next year.
