Total Recall Reboot Gets A Director

Total Recall Reboot Gets A Director

30 July 2010

Underworld and Die Hard 4.0 helmer Len Wiseman is in final negotiations to direct the remake of the 1990 sci-fi action classic, Total Recall, according To Variety.

The news has travelled the interweb fast, and already gotten some of the fanboys knickers in a twist. They don't like him much, y'see, on account of the job he did with the last Die Hard film. But he didn't suggest taming down John McClane, or make Bruce Willis phone it in - so they need to untwist their panties and cop on.

The Philip K Dick short story was previously turned into a movie by Dutch helmer Paul Verhoeven, and starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as a man who has a trip to mars "implanted" in his head by a dodgy company. He then shoots people, blows shit up and makes some hilarious quips. It hasn't aged well, but was cutting edge in the early 90s.

Die Hard 4.0 is better than the first 3 put together. It wasn't Wiseman's fault that Fox wanted to secure a lower cinema age rating. People only have to look at the uncut version, the constant F-bombss are there, the blood's there, the breaking necks are there. Yes, Fox ruined the DVD with their subtitle misgivings and the changing of "Dumptruck" and "I was out of bullets", but it's still the uncut version. I'm all for a remake of Total Recall, the original is brilliant, but, unlike Robocop, it hasn't aged very well. But no one can replace Arnie.
