Top Ten Christmas Movies
Snow may not be falling all around you but we're sure the kids are playing and having fun this fine Christmas Eve. We know you're all rather busy getting ready for St Nick's arrival but when you do pull yourselves away from your cookies, milk and carrots and seek out something festive to watch, you may want to consider catching one of our Top Ten Christmas Movies!
10. It's A Wonderful Life
James Stewart is contemplating suicide on Christmas Eve, when an angel appears to show him how life would have been if he'd never existed. The quintessential Christmas movie, overflowing with joy and love, and at sixty-five years old it’s the perfect classic movie to introduce to young kids.
9. Love, Actually
A thousand bajillion actors star in this criss-crossed comedy/drama about the trials and tribulations of finding, being in, and falling out of love around Christmas. Perfect for a fan of rom-coms, because this is eight all rolled into one and then tied up in a big, seasonal bow.
Will Ferrell plays the human embodiment of The Christmas Spirit as a human brought up as an Elf and then released in the wilds of New York to find his real father. When Buddy The Elf’s innocence collides with "the real world's" cynicism, we dare you not to explode laughing!
Bill Murray brings Charles Dickens’ story to the modern era as his evil TV executive gets visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve, the same night he’s planning a live showing of A Christmas Carol. Hilarious stuff thanks mostly to Murray acting his most callous.
When Billy receives Gizmo the Mogwai as a Christmas present, and then inadvertently breaks ALL THREE RULES you NEVER break when caring for a Mogwai, his entire town is soon over-run with little green monsters. Equal parts funny, scary and gross.
5. National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Chevy Chase and the rest of the Griswold’s plan a big family reunion over the holidays, and as with everything in their lives, it promptly turns into a nightmare. Probably not suitable for the young 'uns, but teenagers will love it.
4. Bad Santa
And now one for the adults Billy Bob Thornton is a conman disguised as a Santa working in a department store, which he plans to rob on Christmas Eve with his foul-mouthed Little Helper. Totally demented, but absolutely hilarious.
3. The Santa Clause
Tim Allen accidentally kills Santa on Christmas Eve (not the best start to a holiday movie, I grant you) and then finds himself magically forced to take his place, big beard and overflowing belly to boot. A perfectly charming movie for the kids.
2. Die Hard
Bruce Willis dons the grubby white vest for the first time when a group of terrorists take over his wife's workplace during the Christmas party. Nearly 25 years old and still arguably the greatest action movie ever made.
1. Home Alone
Eight year old Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) gets accidentally left behind when his entire family jet off to France for Christmas, and then he has to deal with cat-burglars trying to break in. Hilarious enough for both adults and kids to enjoy
