Unfortunate news for those who want to take the highway to the danger zone for a second time, as the sequel to ‘Top Gun’, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, has been delayed.

The development comes a surprise given all the news that’s been emerging about the movie of late. Its star Tom Cruise announced on Twitter at the end of May that the film had entered production by sharing a photo from the set with the caption ‘Day 1.’

Just last week, it was revealed that ‘Mad Men’s Jon Hamm, Ed Harris and Lewis Pullman had joined the cast while other confirmed cast members include Miles Teller, who will play Goose’s son in the movie, and Jennifer Connelly, who is understood to be playing a single mother running a bar near the airbase.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, who had worked with Cruise on ‘Oblivion’, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was originally set for release in July 2019. Paramount have recently released a statement saying that it has been pushed back to June 26, 2020.

According to reports, the studio said the additional time will allow production to put more work into the complex flight sequences, which will be using new technology and planes. We figure it’s better they take their time with this film and get it right rather than rush it (we’ve waited 32 years for a follow-up – we can wait another couple).

Paramount also announced a release date for the sequel to A Quiet Place, which is May 15, 2020.

Elsewhere on the studio’s schedule, the new, currently untitled ‘Terminator’ movie, which recently released a first official picture of Linda Hamilton reprising the role Sarah Connor, has moved up a week from November 22, 2019 to November 15 of the same year. ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’, which will star Ben Schwartz and Jim Carrey, has also moved up a week, from November 15 to November 8, 2019.
