Although it's been rumoured for quite some time, it now looks like there's finally something in the region of official confirmation on the Tom Hardy / Al Capone extravaganza.

Revealing the news - where else? - on Instagram, Hardy posted a moody looking picture saying that it was "Time for Al Cap". Hardy has recently wrapped filming on the upcoming... horror? Horror? Let's say horror... comic-book movie, Venom, with Michelle Williams and is now lining up his next role.

Time for Al Cap

The film is understood to be directed by Josh Trank, he of Fantastic Four reboot infamy, and will begin filming in New Orleans next month with an official synopsis already doing the rounds. Have a read and judge for yourself.

Once a ruthless businessman and bootlegger who ruled Chicago with an iron fist, Alfonse Capone was the most infamous and feared gangster of American lore. At the age of 47, following nearly a decade of imprisonment, dementia rots Alfonse’s mind and his past becomes present as harrowing memories of his violent and brutal origins melt into his waking life.

So, Tom Hardy as Al Capone - can you see it? Given how Robert DeNiro was pretty much the definitive portrayal of the character in Brian DePalma's The Untouchables, Hardy's got a high bar to clear.

Let us know what you think about it all in the comments.
