Marvel took a bit of a risk (at least for them) with Thor: Ragnarok. Hiring a quirky, talented director with a very certain sense of humour in Taika Waititi and allowing the fun to take over what was probably one of the comic book properties most stoic characters before.

That gamble has paid dividends, as the third film in the Thor series took a better-than-expected $121 million domestically and a staggering $427M globally - after a huge launch in China.

It's another huge success for Disney and Marvel, who can seemingly do no wrong and are on the kind of winning streak that would make Pixar blush - another Disney property.

The wind may come out of the God's sails in the next couple of weeks as Warner Bros roll out the mammoth budgeted Justice League day and date in most territories.
