The latest Disney live-action movie to be released in cinemas was ‘Christopher Robin’ but there are plenty more on the studio’s slate in the coming years. One live-action remake further down the line is ‘The Little Mermaid’, and the rumour mill is already churning on a possible actress to play its lead role of Ariel.

This actress, in our opinion, will be perfect to play the part as she has proven herself a great talent more than enough times of late between her roles in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and more appropriately, ‘The Greatest Showman’.

We are talking, of course, about Zendaya, who has a long and positive relationship with Disney that dates back almost a decade when she played the co-star in Disney Channel series ‘Shake It Up’ from 2010 to 2013, and the lead in their series ‘K.C. Undercover’ from 2015 to this year.

That Hashtag Show reports that Zendaya has been offered the starring role of Ariel in ‘The Little Mermaid’ but there has been no official confirmation yet. The Hashtag Show did refer to their report as a ‘rumour’ and neither Disney nor Zendaya have announced anything through official channels.

‘The Little Mermaid’ does not have a release date set but we have some info on the upcoming remake.

As previously reported, Alan Menken (the legend behind such scores as the original 'The Little Mermaid', 'Beauty and the Beast', 'Aladdin', 'Pocahontas', 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame', and 'Hercules') and Lin Manuel-Miranda (the creator of hit Broadway show ‘Hamilton’ and song writer for ‘Moana’) are co-writing the music while Rob Marshall (‘Chicago’, ‘Into the Woods’ and upcoming ‘Mary Poppins Returns’) is reportedly top choice to direct.

The live-action Disney remakes that are currently in production include ‘Mulan’, ‘Maleficent 2’ and ‘Lady and the Tramp’.
