The sequel to the Brad Pitt starring zombie epic, World War Z has lost its director.

Juan Antonio Bayona, who had been attached to direct since December 2013 has left the project due to timing issues. Paramount are keen to get the project in front of cameras this year but Bayona still has post production and press commitments to his latest effort, A Monster Calls.

It's not the first time this franchise has had production difficulties with the original film needing extensive reshoots. The script is being written by Denis Kelly of Utopia acclaim (if you haven't watched that yet you really should, it's simply ace). The current release date is June 9, 2017 so the producers will be hoping to get a replacement for Bayona ASAP.

It is expected that Bayona may now move to helm the Jurassic World sequel which has looser schedule for him to work with.
