Although the last film in the series was released thirteen years ago, fans of The Princess Diaries have been clamouring since then for a third film.

In a recent interview with EW, the author of the original series of books, Meg Cabot, confirmed that a script has been written for a third film - but stressed that it's still a long way away from a reality. Details on the script, however, were light at best.

"I am not allowed to say. I would love to sit and talk about (it) but I can’t," said Cabot.  "I’m not allowed. But it’s really more following the movie than the books, so if she — the last version I read, she definitely did not find out that she has a biracial younger sister... which I personally would’ve thought was hilarious, but that was not the direction they were going."

Both Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews have spoken publicly about their interest in making a third one, and prior to his passing, director Garry Marshall was also in favour of it as well. In March of this year, Andrews confirmed that there was still talk of a third film, saying that her co-star Anne Hathaway was "very keen to do it."

"Annie had an idea that she wanted to pursue about it, and I’m all for it, so if she’d like to..."

Get the mattresses ready, folks.
