Despite the fact that 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' wasn't much of a critical success, it still had its moments here and there - but, yes, ultimately, it was underwhelming and that's exactly how the Honest Trailer for it goes.
It wasn't good, it wasn't bad, it was just... OK. There's the needless explanation of Han Solo's dice (which was just a background prop once), an explanation for his surname (which nobody really needed) and how he came to have his iconic pistol (again, nobody really needed). Not only that, Alden Ehrenreich had a thankless job trying to make it seem like he was a young Harrison Ford whilst still doing his own thing, Lucasfilm swapping out the directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller for Ron Howard halfway through the shoot, and... well, Darth Maul appearing out of nowhere at the end.
All in all, is it any wonder that 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' was responsible for the cooling-off period with the entire franchise? Just look over this Honest Trailer makes it clear that they really were trying to do too much, too fast with the whole thing. Maybe it's a good thing that it's going back to a once-a-year thing, because while there may be enough of a backstory for each and every character, do we need to see it?
The Boba Fett one, maybe.
