The long-rumoured Deadpool movie has been officially confirmed by 20th Century Fox, and it will hit cinemas in 2016.

Not only that, but they have a definite date too: February 12th, so you can already make your Valentine's Day plans a good while in advance.

The movie is expected to have Ryan Reynolds on board as Deadpool, given that he played him in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but if the test footage that was released a while back and ended up getting an incredible response online is anything to go by, it will be a very different character indeed.

The Origins version of Deadpool has his mouth sewn shut, which is not what you expect from a character who's famous for his wise cracks, and that's definitely something we could see Reynolds pulling off with ease. He appears to be the front runner for the role, as well as being a huge fan of the character, and he recently spoke to The Niagra Falls Review about that aforementioned test footage and the feedback they got from it:

"The movie has been in a state of limbo for a while. There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, 'Oh, so we weren't crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.' It's interesting to see the power of the Internet. It's awe-inspiring, actually".

There's a long way to go yet before there are other names attached to the project, but at the minute it looks like Tim Miller will direct, and the safe money is on Reynolds to star.
