Airing last night during 'The Late Late Show' with James Corden, the first trailer for the latest X-Men film has finally been released.

Since news broke that the Fox/Disney merger is going ahead, fans have been speculating that 'Dark Phoenix' might never see the light of day. News that reshoots for 'Dark Phoenix' were recently happening also made fans question if the popular comic book material would be done to justice this second time around, following the mess that 'X-Men: The Last Stand' made of the storyline 12 year ago.

However, there was quite a stir happening about 'Dark Phoenix' yesterday, with rumours of a trailer arriving very soon. Following a bootlegged version of the trailer leaking online, Sophie Turner (who plays Jean Grey in the upcoming movie) revealed on her Instagram that she would be appearing on James Corden's show that evening, as well as showing off the new trailer.

What we can see in our first taster is a team that is breaking apart - in a Jean Grey vs. The X-Men scenario. Jean is dealing with powers she can't control, and her team-mates Professor X (James McEvoy), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), and Cyclops (Ty Sheridan) and the rest are trying to help her. We also get a glimpse of Jessica Chastain's mysterious character, who's probably there to get Jean to embrace her dark side.

Here's the official synopsis:

"In X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX, the X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite -- not only to save Jean's soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy."

'Dark Phoenix' releases next year on Valentine's Day, February 14th.
