The Cannes Film Festival is stamping out two things at this year's festival - and at least one of them is sure to rankle with critics.

Festival chief Thierry Fremaux has announced in an interview with French magazine Le Film Francais that this year, there will be no press screenings held on the morning of world premieres. Instead, critics will see the film at the same time as everyone else (7pm), while 10pm premieres will be screened for the press the following morning.

It's a move that's sure to please studios and filmmakers, however, as it means that their film can't potentially be panned ahead ofits big unveiling. "It will be total suspense," said Fremaux.

In other news - which will be welcomed by surely every other non-narcissistic person - selfies on the red carpet have also been banned. "With (festival president) Pierre Lescure, we decided to totally ban them. At the top of the red carpet the triviality and slowdown of flow provoked by the disorder of selfies ruins the quality of the red carpet, and thus the festival entirely.”

This year's festival runs from May 8th - 19th.
