Marvel had been taking its time in finding the right person to call the shots behind the camera for their first female led superhero movie but looks like they've finally made their decision.

According to Variety, directing duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have been tapped to direct Captain Marvel which will star Oscar winner Brie Larson in the titular role.

Boden and Fleck have been previously known for their strong work in the indie scene, directing the likes of the Ryan Reynolds starring Mississippi Grind and collaborating on Half Nelson which saw Ryan Gosling earn his first Oscar nomination. Most recently they directed thee episodes of Showtime's Billions.

The decision to hire the duo goes in hand with Marvel's history of making left field choices when it comes to choosing its directors. James Gunn and the Russo Brothers are prime examples of talent just waiting for the right platform to showcase what they're capable of.

Boden will become the first female director to helm a Marvel movie, something the studio executives were keen on for their first female led movie.

The script is being written by Inside Out scribe Meg LeFauve and Guardians of the Galaxy's Nicole Perlman. The film's plot will follow Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy project, and flight.
