Ted breaks box office records at Irish cinemas
Ted is breaking records at the Irish box-office, having taken a surprisingly huge €2.06m over its first six days of release.
It's Universal Pictures biggest ever debut, having trouncing the previous record held by The Bourne Ultimatum. Ted opened on a Wednesday, but its weekend haul was still an extremely impressive €1.1 million, and it's single day haul over €300,000 placing it on the top ten of all time debuts. According to a release from Universal, it accounted for 15.45% of the UK and Irish box office total.
It's worth bearing in mind that Ted isn’t based on a pre-existing property, isn't a sequel and isn't a remake. That is huge business for an original comedy - especially an age restrictive one. I'd be shocked if we didn't see a sequel soon, with the tally thus far even more impressive when you consider the film had the Olympics to compete with.
