For those of you looking for something a little more mentally stimulating than the average popcorn muncher, we give two thumbs up to this documentary; Miss Representation, by Jennifer Siebel Newsom is a critically acclaimed piece of work that explores the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence. The aim of the documentary is to challenge the media's longstanding and limited portrayal of what it means to be a successful, powerful women in business today.

Apart from screening the film (which premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, and aired on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network), it is hoped that the evening will gather together a number of women who work in media, advertising and sales for an enlightening discussion around the positive portrayal of women in all kinds of media. All of the event's proceeds will be going back to Missrepresentation and be used to support a working group of women in Irish media who are interested in making positive changes.

Given that the last two Dublin screenings have sold out, we recommend early booking. And as it happens, we've got tickets right here on entertainment.ie. Miss Representation screens at Filmbase on October 25th with the help of the Irish Feminist Network.
