'Stoker': We met Mia Wasikowska and Matthew Goode. He's a little bit charming...
18-year-old India Stoker (Mia Wasikowsa) is hunting for her latest birthday gift when he father is killed in a mysterious car accident two states over. Her mother (Nicole Kidman) isn't coping too well, that is, until Uncle Charlie (Matthew Goode) walks into their lives, and turns India's word upside down, forever. I wasn't quite sure I'd make it through (I'm TERRIBLE with thrillers) but after being thoroughly terrified and utterly entertained in equal measure by the film, it was off to London town with me to catch up with the cast.
First up was Mia Wasikowsa. You might remember her from Gabriel Byrne's In Treatment, Alice In Wonderland, or of course, as Jane Eyre opposite our own Michael Fassbender. A more polite, gentle and viciously talented actress you could not meet! Mia talked about getting inside India Stoker's head, being compared to the likes of Sissy Spacek (India's got a Carrie vibe going on) and even told us a little bit about her upcoming plans to do some directing in The Turing. You can catch our chat right here.
The one I was waiting for, however, was Matthew Goode. Myself and about 3/4 of the population of the planet, both male and female, have fallen head over heels in cinematic love with this fella over the past ten years. Whether it was as Ben from Chasing Liberty, Jim from A Single Man, or, indeed, Declan from Leap Year *cough*, he's managed to charm the pants off us all.
They say you shouldn't meet your idols, but that's not the case with this fella. Oh no, he's as lovely as you always wished he was, and had no trouble telling me all about chasing down a role that was meant for Colin Firth, the fun he had playing sociopath and what exactly happened with THAT accent. I had to get it in, obvs. All in day's work as they say, all in a day's work.... *swoon*
