That might seem like we're being reductive or silly, but it's actually the truth - Steve Carrell's character in 'Welcome To Marwen' essentially co-opts people from his life and makes miniature versions of themselves that he then arranges into fantastical World War II settings.

The film, which is itself an adaptation of the excellent documentary 'Marwencol', sees Carrell play Mark Hogancamp, a man who was savagely beaten by a group of neo-Nazis and suffers brain damage as a result. After he attempts to put his life back together following the incident, he retreats into a fantasy world where he constructs a miniature version of a World War II-era Belgian town that he names Marwencol, a portmanteau of his own name and his friends Wendy and Colleen.

Robert Zemeckis - who was recently announced as the director of Roald Dahl's 'The Witches' - directs with a story credit from Caroline Thompson, the woman behind 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' and 'The Addams Family' and sees Janelle Monae, Diane Kruger, Gwendoline Christie and Leslie Mann in the cast.

The film won't arrive in Irish cinemas until January 11th, 2019, but don't be surprised if this comes in the Oscar race.
