Stellan Skarsgard to launch JDIFF's 10th birthday this Thursday.

30 January 2012

It's that time of year again when the coveted Jameson Dublin International Film Festival rolls around. This year marks a particularly special birthday for the festival, it's 10 years old! Kicking off this Thursday, it has just been confirmed that acclaimed Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård will fly in to launch the programme.

Celebrating this important milestone for JDIFF, the actor, known for his roles in Good Will Hunting and the recent hit The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo, will be joined by Irish actress Amy Huberman (known for her roles in A Film With Me In It, and the recent Threesome), along with other important members of the Irish film industry. What's more, the much anticipated party will take place in the newly re-opened Light House Cinema.

Making his trip to Ireland even more special, Skarsgård will also be honoured earlier that day with a Volta, which, for those of you unaware, is the festival's Career Achievement Award. The Volta is annually awarded by the festival to outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions in the film industry. Skarsgård's contribution is indisputable and he will be honoured for his work in both Scandinavian and English language films. From starting out with Swedish TV series Bombi Bitt to his American debut with Lars von Trier's Breaking The Waves, not to mention his work on films such as Ronin, King Arthur, Juanita Wilson's As If I Am Not There and most recently The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Skarsgård is fast becoming a permanent fixture across the world's cinema screens. This award will serve to further strengthen his reputation as one of Scandinavia's finest exports. Fair play to ya, Stellan!
