James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy, has been more than vocal about his distaste for some of Marvel's policies and marketing techniques.

He recently said in an interview that he finds the whole idea of "shared universes" to be a bit pants and that he planned on killing Stan Lee.

ON FILM, YOU GUYS, CHILL.

As with all Marvel movies, there features a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo from Stan Lee, Marvel's godfather, in Guardians. It features the 91-year old comic book writer chatting up a young lady.

Gunn, however, originally intended something different. Lee was supposed to appear in The Collector's museum and give Groot the finger as he passed by. Later, when the whole place exploded because someone gripped the glittery stone thing, Lee's box would exploded and Lee's decapitated head would roll into the frame.

Yikes.

Gunn said that Marvel liked the idea, but thought Lee's death would be a bit much.

We think it would been totally ballsy. After all, Guardians was one of the most original Marvel movies going - so why not subvert everyone's expectations?
