And it’s about time!

The character of Black Widow as played by Scarlett Johansson has appeared in five Marvel movies now and it’s high time that, like many of her fellow Avengers, she got her own movie.

With her background as a Russian spy who defected to the US, and complicated emotional makeup, there’s definitely room for exploration in a solo outing. Plus the critical and box office success of Wonder Woman this year proved that female superheroes do work when done right.

It’s been established for a while now that fans want a Black Widow solo movie and the latest tease that suggests their dreams might just come true comes via the Supanova Comic Con which was held in Brisbane, Australia, last weekend.

Comicbook.com reports that when Stan Lee was asked if he would like to see a Black Widow movie at the event, he replied: "One day there will be a Black Widow movie." The film could thus be part of Marvel's Phase 4 plans.

Johansson previously expressed interest in doing a Black Widow solo movie, telling Collider: "I think that there's room for a standalone movie.

"The character has a really rich origin story and I've been really fortunate to kind of place all these layers on top of one another and kind of build up this character to this point where I think I can now start to peel them away and reveal different sides of her."

Thor Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, meanwhile, recently spoke of how a Black widow solo film could, like his take on Thor, be humorous. "[I'd like to see] Black Widow as something crazy and a bit funnier than we expect it to be," he told io9. "Because we know her story and it's very sullen and very dark and her history is very dark. But! What’s the funny version of that? What’s the more entertaining version of that?"

Back in 2015, SNL hilariously and ingeniously imagined what a Black Widow solo movie would be like as a rom com:
