Although Spamalot was itself based on Monty Python And The Holy Grail - the first theatrical release from Monty Python that wasn't a live concert show or sketches from the BBC series - it's not stopping Eric Idle from writing a script or Fox from fast-tracking it into production.

Deadline reports that Casey Nicholaw will helm the film, himself involved in the original production of Spamalot when the late great Mike Nichols was directing. There's no word yet on casting, but it's understood that the movie will have all of the songs from the musical and will likely come with the same kind of wonderful weirdness of the original show.

Over the years, some famous names have starred in Spamalot, such as Tim Curry, David Hyde Pierce, Hank Azaria, Christian Slater and Craig Robinson.

No release date has been confirmed as of yet.
