After announcing the sequel last year, and signing LeBron James on to play the lead, this is just the update we wanted to hear.

Lin was speaking on a Television Critics Panel when he was asked about his upcoming movies. The Fast and the Furious director said there were challenges with the Space Jam project but was confident it would go ahead.

"We have actors who are also professional athletes, so schedule is something that's tough," he explained, adding that he asked Warner Bros for the time to develop the sequel.

"I feel like I've gone down nine different iterations already and we're going to keep going, but we're getting closer every day," he said.

The Space Jam original, released in 1996, was a cult classic with an epic soundtrack featuring R. Kelly. Check out the original trailer.

We’re starting to believe we can fly.
