Over the last number of weeks we've been getting steadily excited for Terminator Genisys.

The fifth Terminator film sees the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger as T-800, the robot bad-ass who's sent back to the '80s to... well, you'll see.

So, before you sit down to watch Genisys, here's a quick run-through of everything you need to know to enjoy.

Take a look!

6. ARNOLD SCHWARZENGGER IS BACK, LIKE BACK BACK

He's back. Is that enough a reason to go see this? The Governator hasn't missed a step and he looks just as fearsome and terrifying as he ever did. The guy's SIXTY-SEVEN and he still looks like he could hand you your ass in a scrap. Couple that with a CGI version of his younger self that he beats the crap out of and you're in for a seriously good time.

5. THEY'VE CLEARED UP ALL THE CONFUSION WITH THE PREVIOUS FILMS

Terminator Genisys is basically one big giant reset button for the franchise. Taking a cue from Star Trek, they're essentially rewriting the universe and putting Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) in the driver's seat. You've also got a totally bewildered Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) who - get this - has to be saved in the opening sequence. How cool is that?

4. JAMES CAMERON IS A FAN

Yes, cinematic warlord James Cameron has found room in that icy heart of his to love something. In a recent interview, Cameron referred to Genisys as 'the third film' in his mind, which is a serious amount of shade to be throwing at Rise of the Machines and Salvation. Not only that, if he says it's good and he's not a producer and has absolutely no skin in the game, that's got to tell you something.

3. DAENARYS TARGARAYEN IS GOING TO BE IN IT

Yes, Emilia Clarke and her impressive set of eyebrows will be playing Sarah Connor and man, does she look terrifying. She knows her way around a Desert Eagle and she means business. Not only that - and we're not spoiling this, either - she was raised by the Terminator. Mind-melting, we know, but it'll all make sense. Imagine if your adoptive father was the Terminator? School runs would be the most exciting thing ever.

2. THE LIQUID METAL TERMINATOR IS ALSO MAKING A COMEBACK

Sadly, however, it won't be Robert Patrick. Korean superstar Lee Byung-Hun plays the T-1000 who's sent to off Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese and Terminator. We're hoping that they do a callback to the scene where he walks through the jail.

1. IT'S A HONEST-TO-GOODNESS CALLBACK TO THE ORIGINAL MOVIES

While Terminator Salvation had its moment, it was all very, very serious and you had Christian Bale shouting at everything. This, on the other hand, is a straight-to-the-point blockbuster. Arnold Schwarzengger throws himself off a helicopter and headbutts another helicopter. Honestly, like.

Terminator Genisys is now in Irish cinemas nationwide, cert 12A.
