Last weekend’s Comic Con in San Diego saw trailers being dropped left, right and centre for movies like ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,’ ‘Shazam!’ and 'Godzilla: King of the Monsters,’ and TV series like ‘The Purge’ and ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ season 2. Through various panels, we’ve also been getting news about highly anticipated films, including this ditty from Shane Black about ‘The Predator’ movie.

Black, who of course starred in the original ‘Predator’ with Arnold Schwarzenegger, has both co-written and directed the latest in the franchise.

At a panel at the convention, host Conan O’Brien asked Black about how he has said he wanted to make the new Predator scarier than ones we’ve seen of late, to which Black answered: “I think because the Predator look is now so iconic and so instantly recognisable – I mean, you can walk out in Comic Con and see a pretty serviceable Predator just walking around – so what he looks like, although you don’t want to change that, it’s not going to scare people so much anymore.

“So you’ve got to go back to the way, I think, that they behave, how deadly they are. So these things, for our purposes, first-off we have an R-rating, so this thing can strike, it can retreat.”

O’Brien then unveiled a sneak peek at the new Predator (above) and Black explained: “What we strove for was a Predator that’s been bred as an assassin, so he basically incorporates traits from other species that these Predators have hunted around the galaxy. So this one opens his mouth really big and bites off your head.”

Meanwhile another star of the film, Jake Busey, talked about playing real-life dad Gary Busey’s son in ‘The Predator.’ Jake also talked about visiting his dad on the ‘Predator 2’ set when he was in high school.

‘The Predator’ is scheduled to hit Irish cinemas on September 14th.
