Scream 5 is NOT happening, says Wes Craven.

Hate to break it to those of you in the Wes Craven fan club; Scream 5 is not, I repeat NOT, in the works. Dispelling the many rumours circulating about the fifth installment in the slasher movie franchise, Craven took to Twitter to say: "No news on Scream 5 yet... You guys really want another one?"

After 11 years devoid of ghostface and big-busted teenagers running UP the stairs rather than out the door, Wes Craven brought Scream 4 back to his band of slasher hungry fans. Alongside the original characters (Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette) came new faces among which Emma Roberts and Hayden Panetteiere were included. With a 58% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it didn't go down quite as well as Craven had hoped and maybe that's the reason we've not yet got a fifth one on the way. 'Yet', being the operative word. Judging by Craven's comments, if the demand is there, he'll no doubt return.
