Surely following the news that Ryan Reynolds is going to voice the titular character in the new Detective Pikachu movie, this is only the second most random project the actor has been involved with of late.
Deadline reports that following the Twentieth Century Fox-Disney deal, Fox has now entered a three-year first-look deal with Reynolds’ Maximum Effort to hatch projects for the studio.
The first of these will be Clue, a live action film based on the Hasbro board game of the same name (known as Cluedo in Ireland and the UK). Clue was previously brought to the big screen in a 1985 film starring Tim Curry, Christopher Lloyd, Eileen Brennan, Martin Mull, and Lesley Ann Warren.
The original wasn’t exactly a box office hit but it’s developed something of a cult status over the years. Plus given the success of Deadpool (the highest grossing film for Fox since Avatar), you’d have faith that Reynolds and Fox are going to do something creative with it, unlike the recent blasé Murder on the Orient Express.
Moreover, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the Deadpool films, are in talks to write the script, though a deal isn’t yet in place. Reynolds would likely star in the film and also produce.
