This is very exciting news indeed. As per The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Gosling is to make his directorial and writing debut with fantasy noir - "How to Catch a Monster". The screenplay will be taken to the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival where international film financers Sierra Affinity are hoping foreign buyers will pick it up.

Not only is he writing and directing, Gosling will also produce this film through his Phantasma banner alongside Marc Platt and Adam Siegel of Marc Platt Productions as well as Michel Litvak and David Lancaster of Bold Films, who are financing this debut flick.

Speaking of those involved with the production, Gosling said: "I am very appreciative to Marc Platt, Adam Siegel and Bold Films for being so supportive, and I look forward to making this film with all of them."

Principal photography will begin in the Spring of 2013 with actress Christina Hendricks taking the lead role of Billy. As for the plot? Well, it's got a lot in it. Catch a Monster is said to blend elements of fantasy noir with suspense to create a sort of modern fairy tale set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city. To quote The Hollywood Reporter, the story centres on Billy, a single mom of two "who is swept into a macabre underworld, while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to a underwater town."

Certainly one to keep an eye out for. We expect big things from Mr. Gosling; he is, after all, more than just a pretty face.
