Russell Crowe is attached to star as Dracula in a production that has Hostel helmer Eli Roth attached to direct.

Crowe has been in negotiations for Harker for a while, but most folk assumed he'd play the titular role - not that of the famous fanged sort. In this film, Jonathon Harker is a Scotland Yard detective tracking Dracula. Crowe would be the villain of the piece, but quite probably in a romantic way similar to that of Francis Ford Coppola's take on the character in the flick from the early 90s. Roth just worked with Crowe in the crazy looking Man with the Iron Fists - a very unusual role for him - but just as producer/writer. The Oscar winner is currently filming musical Les Miserables with Hugh Jackman.

Crowe is scheduled to begin filming on Darren Aronofsky's epic Noah soon, so the studio (and producer Leonardo Di Caprio) will want this one to move fast. The Harker role is yet to be cast.
