Rosamund Pike's breakout role was, undoubtedly, 'Gone Girl' - however her first feature film role was 2002's 'Die Another Day' with Pierce Brosnan's final outing as Bond.
In a recent interview with Audible, Pike explained that she turned up for the audition and was then giving a dressing down by the costume designer for being entirely too over-dressed. "He said, 'That's a very beautiful dress, but in Bond films we wear things a little more like this', and he held up three pieces of string," explained Pike.
"I just thought, 'Actually sod that. If they're gonna see me in my underwear, they better give me the job'... there's no way I'm going to take off a dress in the audition for this tape to be sent around Los Angeles and to be judged on that." Of course, Pike was eventually cast in 'Die Another Day' and played villain Miranda Frost opposite Toby Stephens from 'Lost In Space', who played Gustav Graves - a British villain who was, in fact, a North Korean officer who had DNA therapy to change his appearance and make him appear Caucasian.
Yeah, really.
On the prospect of a female Bond, Pike was equally straight on the topic and decried the idea of a formerly male character being flipped to female. "You can't always just flip it and just say, 'Oh, she's a woman now'. I mean, that's to underestimate a woman entirely I think."
Pike is slated to star next to our own Jamie Dornan in 'A Private War', where she'll play war jouirnalist Marie Colvin, who died in Syria in 2012.
