In some surprising news, Robert Downey Jr. is in negotiations to join the cast of of Captain America 3, with the kicker being that he'd actually be playing somewhat of a villain.
He'll still be Iron Man/Tony Stark, but the plot will centre on the 'Superhero Registration Act' which forces anyone with superhuman abilities to reveal their identities to the U.S. government and agree to act as a police force. Stark agrees, Steve Rodgers (Captain America/Chris Evans) doesn't and is forced to go on the run with Stark tracking him.
It's an intriguing set up, as the last Captain America film was huge for Marvel and a massive step up in quality from the first one. It's thought this film will move the Marvel universe in a different direction, one that quite probably doesn't involve Robert Downey Jr. pulling in $40 million plus backend participation.
Hey, Iron Man doesn't come cheap.
Production will apparently begin in a few months for a 2016 tentpole summer release.
