Chucky will return as MGM have announced that they are remaking ‘Child’s Play’, the 1980s horror movie revolving around a toy doll possessed by the soul of a serial killer.
After the success of the first film of the slash horror series in 1988, there have been ‘Child’s Play’ films produced across the 90s, 2000s and 2010s. The latest film, ‘Cult of Chucky’, was only released last year.
It was announced last month that a TV series based by the franchise is also in the pipeline.
According to THR, movie studio MGM is behind the remake and they are fast-tracking the project.
Lars Klevberg, the Norwegian filmmaker behind the horror movie ‘Polaroid’, is directing while ‘It’ producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith are also on board.
Tyler Burton Smith, who has written video games and is the scribe behind 'Kung Fury 2' (which is currently shooting while a feature-length version based on the original cult short is also in the works), penned the script.
The studio wants production to start in Vancouver this September.
More recent films of the ‘Child’s Play’ or ‘Chucky’ franchise were released by Universal’s short-lived Rogue banner or by Universal Home Entertainment. The new film is coming back to its roots as the original release came from MGM’s United Artists.
